The center part of the film is a transcription of one of J.S. Bach \u2019s<i>Invention<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab L\u2019inspiration musicale derri\u00e8re ce film est double : le film est non seulement b\u00e2ti \u00e0 partir d\u2019une partition pr\u00e9alablement \u00e9crite, mais il se trouve que cette derni\u00e8re est directement inspir\u00e9e de la partition musicale d\u2019un passage de Bach. Ce passage a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9terminant en ce qui concerne l\u2019ordre et la dur\u00e9e des images du film. Si ces images ne sont pas tout \u00e0 fait arbitraires (en effet, il s\u2019agit d\u2019un champ devant une maison du dix-huiti\u00e8me si\u00e8cle o\u00f9 un orchestre jouait un air de Bach), elles sont tout au moins compl\u00e8tement subordonn\u00e9es \u00e0 la partition : elles \u201cjouent\u201d la composition du cin\u00e9aste. Cette composition est b\u00e2tie sur 36 angles diff\u00e9rents d\u2019un panoramique de 180\u00b0 du champ et de la maison. La cam\u00e9ra balaie ce panoramique, avan\u00e7ant et reculant aux rythmes vari\u00e9s et en dur\u00e9es vari\u00e9es, selon la partition.\u00a0<i>R<\/i>\u00a0est donc une reconstruction, l\u2019orchestration du paysage, du r\u00e9el, ce qui privil\u00e9gie la vision et la volont\u00e9 de l\u2019artiste aussi bien que l\u2019aspect purement plastique du cin\u00e9ma.\u00bb Deke Dusinberre<\/p>\n<p>Dans l\u2019un de mes premiers films :\u00a0<i>R<\/i>\u00a0(1975), j\u2019ai voulu appliqu\u00e9 \u00e0 un panoramique de 180\u00b0 une organisation des prises image par image selon la transcription partielle d\u2019une invention \u00e0 deux voix de J. S. Bach. Il n\u2019\u00e9tait pas question de reproduire, ni de donner \u00e0 voir, et encore moins \u00e0 entendre l\u2019invention de Bach mais, de se servir d\u2019une transcription arbitraire qui assignait \u00e0 chaque note un angle de prise de vue du panoramique (tous les 5\u00b0) et me permettait ainsi, de jouer d\u2019un clavier \u00e0 raison d\u2019un photogramme par note. Il s\u2019agissait de constituer ind\u00e9pendamment de la valeur de chaque note un syst\u00e8me d\u2019\u00e9quivalence \u00e0 partir duquel j\u2019organisais les prises (notes \/ photogrammes) dans un paysage : un jardin \u00e0 l\u2019abandon devant un logis du XVIII si\u00e8cle. Je jouais ainsi de ma cam\u00e9ra comme d\u2019un clavier et commen\u00e7ais \u00e0 parcourir le paysage selon des suites de d\u00e9constructions savantes qui illustraient parfois des lignes de d\u00e9veloppement de formes musicales. On pourrait parler de visualisation d\u2019une polyphonie qui cependant joue avec la s\u00e9rialisation des photogrammes et inscrit ainsi la musique comme paradigme cin\u00e9matographique. D\u00e9construction car le paysage se reconstitue selon des faux panoramiques simples ou complexes selon les formes auxquels je recourais. L\u2019application de canons ou de fugues permettait de mettre en place des voix distinctes en faisant se croiser des mouvements sur le jardin.
